Interns will work under the guidance of a project coordinator and will be involved in a range of activities that support UNODC's objectives. Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the UNODC's initiatives. Key duties include translating documents between Portuguese, English, and occasionally Spanish; assisting in the production of reports and analyses related to UNODC's thematic areas; supporting the drafting of instructional documents on project management; conducting research to gather relevant information; assisting in the creation of databases and graphical visualizations; preparing presentations and briefings; managing agendas and events; supporting consultancy management processes; preparing meeting agendas and minutes; participating in meetings; communicating with collaborators to gather necessary information; preparing terms of reference for contracting; assisting in data collection and processing; writing reports on project implementation status; and performing other related tasks as requested.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and the ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having recently completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Candidates must provide proof of their enrollment or completion of their degree program as part of the application process.
Experience: While prior professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, having previous internship experience in international organizations or government settings is considered desirable. This experience can provide valuable insights into the workings of international bodies and enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to UNODC's projects.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese and English is required for this internship. Additionally, fluency in Spanish is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, so knowledge of these languages can also be beneficial.
