Job Overview:
The Nurse position within UNMISS is crucial for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of UN personnel in South Sudan. The role involves providing integrated quality healthcare services to staff members of the United Nations Mission and associated agencies. The Nurse will work under the supervision of Medical Officers and will be responsible for various healthcare tasks, including responding to emergencies, conducting medical examinations, and ensuring the safety and confidentiality of patient records. The position requires a proactive approach to health education and preventive medicine, as well as the ability to work in challenging conditions typical of a conflict-affected area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nurse will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: working in the walk-in clinic, responding to emergency calls, assisting doctors in patient care, performing medical exams such as ECGs and blood tests, preparing patients for interventions, assessing client needs, maintaining emergency room equipment, recording patient data, ensuring patient safety, communicating with patients and doctors, maintaining patient records, providing health education, contributing to planning preventive medical practices, organizing First Aid Training for UNMISS staff, and maintaining the clinic pharmacy. The Nurse will also perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer or other medical officers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid nursing license and have a strong understanding of nursing practices and protocols. They should demonstrate accountability, adaptability, creativity, and professionalism. The ability to make sound judgments and decisions, as well as effective planning and organizing skills, are essential. The Nurse should also exhibit self-management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment.

Educational Background:
A degree in nursing or a related field is required. Candidates should have completed a recognized nursing program and hold a current nursing license. Additional certifications in emergency care or public health would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a clinical or emergency care setting. Experience working in international or humanitarian contexts is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the healthcare challenges faced in conflict-affected areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNMISS. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in South Sudan, would be considered an asset.
