Job Overview:
The National Consultant for Coordination and Communications Support will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women’s initiatives, particularly the joint programme Zero Hunger Accelerator (JP ZHA). This position involves engaging with various stakeholders, including inter-agency coordination and external partners, to ensure effective collaboration and alignment with UN Women’s objectives. The consultant will assist in the planning and execution of communication strategies, ensuring that messaging is consistent and impactful. The role requires the development of various materials, such as briefs and reports, to synthesize insights and enhance UN Women’s visibility and strategic positioning. The consultant will also track the progress of activities and document lessons learned to recommend improvements for future initiatives. This position is home-based but may require occasional visits to the UN Women Philippines office for document printing or on-site work as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for several key duties, including:
  • Supporting inter-agency coordination and stakeholder engagement by attending meetings and tracking follow-ups to enhance alignment with UN Women’s contributions.
  • Providing coordination support with external partners and consultants involved in JP ZHA and other initiatives to ensure coherence and effective collaboration.
  • Assisting in the planning, preparation, and rollout of communications and advocacy strategies, ensuring consistent messaging and visibility for UN Women.
  • Developing briefs, reports, presentations, and visual materials that synthesize key insights and strategically position UN Women.
  • Tracking the progress of coordination and communications activities, documenting lessons learned, and recommending adjustments for greater effectiveness.
  • Submitting monthly progress reports detailing completed work and finalized deliverables, which will be reviewed and approved by the Country Programme Coordinator.
  • Performing any other tasks as guided by the supervisor within the functional profile.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications, including:
  • Completion of secondary education is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in international development, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required.
  • At least 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in inter-agency/stakeholder coordination and engagement, programme coordination, or communications and advocacy is required.
  • Experience working on gender equality and development issues within the context of the Philippines is required.
  • Proven experience in preparing analytical reports, policy briefs, and visual communication materials is required.
  • Experience managing and curating content across social media platforms is required.
  • Familiarity with the UN system and inter-agency coordination processes is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of secondary education, with a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as international development, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related area being mandatory. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the communication strategies necessary for effective advocacy and coordination.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically at least 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in areas such as inter-agency/stakeholder coordination, programme coordination, or communications and advocacy. Candidates should have a solid understanding of gender equality and development issues, particularly within the Philippine context, and must demonstrate experience in preparing analytical reports and managing social media content. Familiarity with the UN system and inter-agency coordination processes is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to navigate the complexities of the role effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Filipino is mandatory for this position, ensuring effective communication with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of any other UN official language is considered an asset, which could further enhance the consultant's ability to engage with international partners and broaden the scope of communication efforts.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. However, the consultant is expected to report to the UN Women Philippines office as needed and may need to access the office for document printing or on-site work. There may be at least one mission related to the scope of work, which will be arranged and funded separately by UN Women in accordance with their travel policy.
