Job Overview:
The ICT Officer – Geospatial Data Engineer is responsible for managing and delivering geospatial data services that are crucial for emergency response, peace operations, and political missions. This position requires a deep understanding of geospatial data management, including both vector and raster data types. The officer will apply advanced techniques in data integration, quality control, and governance to ensure that the data supports situational awareness and operational planning. The role is vital in complex environments where timely and accurate information is essential for decision-making. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that all geospatial data practices comply with UN policies and standards, contributing to the overall effectiveness of global operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage geospatial data services, including the collection, processing, and dissemination of geospatial information.
• Ensure the quality and integrity of geospatial data through rigorous quality control processes.
• Develop and implement data governance practices to maintain compliance with UN standards.
• Collaborate with operational teams to provide geospatial support for planning and decision-making.
• Conduct training sessions for staff on geospatial data tools and methodologies.
• Stay updated on advancements in geospatial technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.
• Prepare reports and presentations on geospatial data findings for stakeholders.
• Participate in emergency response activities as required, providing timely geospatial information to support operations.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of geospatial data management principles and practices.
• Proficiency in GIS software and tools, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
• Familiarity with programming languages relevant to geospatial data processing, such as Python or R.
• Understanding of data governance frameworks and quality assurance methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of professional experience in geospatial data management or a related field is required. Experience working in international organizations or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN operations and policies will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional UN languages, such as Spanish or French, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
