Job Overview:
The ICT Officer – Geospatial Analyst is responsible for delivering critical geospatial and image intelligence services that support emergency response, peace operations, and political missions globally. This position requires the application of advanced geospatial and imagery techniques to enhance situational awareness and facilitate operational planning and decision-making in complex, often urgent environments. The role is integral to ensuring that the UN's operations are informed by accurate and timely geospatial data, thereby contributing to the effectiveness of missions worldwide. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with UN policies and best practices, while also adapting to the dynamic needs of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide geospatial analysis and imagery intelligence to support UN missions and operations.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial databases and systems to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with field operations to gather and analyze geospatial data relevant to ongoing missions.
  • Create detailed maps and visualizations to aid in operational planning and situational awareness.
  • Ensure compliance with UN standards and best practices in geospatial data management.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on geospatial tools and techniques.
  • Stay updated on advancements in geospatial technology and methodologies to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on geospatial data interpretation and visualization.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and tools, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Knowledge of remote sensing techniques and image processing.
  • Familiarity with UN policies and operational frameworks related to geospatial analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and under pressure.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in geography, geospatial sciences, information technology, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in geospatial analysis, information technology, or a related field is required. Experience working in international organizations or in a humanitarian context is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience in managing geospatial projects and collaborating with diverse teams is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional UN languages, such as Spanish or French, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified at the Associate level (ICS 08) and is offered on an open-ended contract basis, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance. The role is full-time and may involve travel to various field locations as required by operational needs.
