Job Overview: The ICT Specialist – Technology Solutions Engineer (IICA-2) position is crucial for supporting the Technology Development and Deployment Support (TDDPS) and Technology Deployment Unit (TDU) within the UN. This role is centered on the delivery of innovative technology solutions that aim to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of UN peace operations. The specialist will be responsible for analyzing current technology needs, developing solutions that meet these needs, and ensuring that the technology implemented is sustainable and scalable. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the organization's objectives. The ICT Specialist will also be expected to stay updated with the latest technological advancements and integrate them into the UN's operations where applicable.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the ICT Specialist include but are not limited to:
Assessing the technology needs of UN peace operations and developing tailored solutions.
Collaborating with various departments to ensure that technology solutions align with organizational goals.
Implementing and managing technology projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Providing technical support and training to staff on new technologies and systems.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of technology solutions and making recommendations for improvements.
Ensuring compliance with UN policies and procedures regarding technology use and data security.
Engaging with external vendors and partners to source technology solutions and negotiate contracts.
Preparing reports and documentation related to technology projects and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in information and communications technology, with specific expertise in technology solutions engineering. A solid understanding of UN peace operations and the unique challenges they face is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools is also required, along with a commitment to the UN's values and mission.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an advantage. Professional certifications in project management or specific technology solutions may also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in information and communications technology, particularly in roles focused on technology solutions and project management.
