Job Overview: This internship opportunity is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in communications within a prestigious international organization. The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will support the RCO’s communications and advocacy efforts, which include multimedia content creation, media monitoring, and enhancing the visibility of UN activities in Kyrgyzstan. Interns will have the chance to engage in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the UN, while also developing their skills in a professional environment. The internship is hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote and in-office work, and is expected to last for six months. Interns will be involved in significant UN events and will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the RCO’s communications strategy. Key responsibilities include:
Providing logistical and functional support during press conferences, workshops, and high-level UN events.
Assisting in drafting, translating, and editing communication products such as press releases and social media posts.
Supporting the development of multimedia content, including photography, videography, editing, and the design of digital and print materials.
Contributing to UN communication campaigns and visibility activities.
Supporting media monitoring by compiling daily and weekly coverage of UN activities in national and regional media.
Assisting with translations between English, Russian, and Kyrgyz as required.
Maintaining an organized archive of communications materials, including news clippings, photos, videos, and reports.
Performing other communications-related duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, public relations, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Demonstrated skills in photography, videography, and the use of editing/design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, or similar.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural team environment.
Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Educational Background: The position requires applicants to be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or to have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. The field of study should be closely related to the type of internship being applied for, ensuring that candidates have the relevant academic background to contribute effectively to the RCO’s communications efforts.
Experience: While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that they have a field of study that closely relates to the internship. This ensures that interns possess the foundational knowledge necessary to engage with the tasks and responsibilities of the position effectively. The internship is particularly suited for those who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a real-world setting, under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Languages: Fluency in English and Russian, both oral and written, is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan. A working knowledge of the Kyrgyz language is considered a strong asset, as it will enhance communication and engagement with local stakeholders and communities.
