Job Overview:
The Innovative Nuclear Technology Transport Safety Specialist is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. This position is responsible for implementing activities related to the safe transport of radioactive materials and advanced nuclear technologies. The specialist will serve as a substantive expert, developing and reviewing international safety standards and guidance, advising Member States and international organizations on improving transport safety, and managing complex technical assistance projects. The role requires a deep understanding of nuclear safety regulations and the ability to facilitate discussions among policymakers and representatives from various Member States. The specialist will also be involved in training and capacity-building initiatives to enhance the safety of radioactive material transport globally.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Innovative Nuclear Technology Transport Safety Specialist include developing, reviewing, and revising safety standards and technical documents to ensure they reflect international consensus and state-of-the-art knowledge. The specialist will provide advice to Member States and international organizations to achieve harmonized application of transport regulations. Additionally, the role involves strengthening forums to raise awareness of transport safety issues, planning and organizing complex technical meetings, and leading discussions on transport safety standards. The specialist will also manage projects related to the Transport Regulations and provide training on safe transport practices, ensuring that all activities align with the IAEA's mission and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in nuclear science, nuclear technology, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline. A first-level university degree combined with two years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in safety assessments related to the transport of radioactive materials or nuclear power plants. Candidates should have demonstrable participation in the development and application of IAEA safety standards, as well as the ability to prepare high-quality technical documents and establish effective working relationships with IAEA staff and Member States.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in nuclear science, nuclear technology, nuclear engineering, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these areas, along with two years of relevant work experience, may be accepted. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nuclear safety and transport regulations.

Experience:
The position requires at least seven years of relevant experience in safety assessments, particularly in the context of transporting radioactive materials or working with nuclear power plants. Candidates should have a proven track record in the development and application of safety standards and should be capable of managing complex technical projects and discussions with various stakeholders.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $86,027, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
