Job Overview:
The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will report directly to the Director of the Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) within the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. This role is pivotal in developing and implementing the IAEA's policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the preparedness of Member States for nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies. The Coordinator will manage and coordinate various activities necessary for the execution of the IAEA's programs, ensuring that all elements are developed and implemented efficiently. This position requires a strong focus on program management, coordination of emergency preparedness aspects, and providing expert technical support to Member States. The Coordinator will also play a critical role in the IAEA's Incident and Emergency System (IES), participating in emergency response activities and training exercises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of activities aimed at strengthening Member States' preparedness for nuclear and radiological incidents. This includes ensuring compliance with IAEA Safety Standards and conducting Emergency Preparedness Reviews (EPREVs). The Coordinator will manage the development and maintenance of Safety Standards, technical guidelines, and tools relevant to emergency preparedness, incorporating feedback from actual emergencies and exercises. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide expert technical knowledge and guidance to Member States, oversee technical cooperation projects, maintain agreements with international organizations, and fulfill duties as an on-call Emergency Response Manager within the IES.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, radiation protection, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these fields combined with two years of relevant work experience may be considered. A doctorate in a related field is advantageous. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in emergency preparedness and response to nuclear incidents, with at least five years in a managerial role and three years at the international level. Experience in developing national response plans and emergency preparedness arrangements is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with knowledge of other IAEA official languages being an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, radiation protection, or a closely related field. Candidates with a first-level university degree in these areas may be considered if they have two years of relevant work experience. A doctorate in a related field is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 years in the field of emergency preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents. This experience must include at least five years in a managerial capacity and three years at the international level, focusing on the development of Safety Standards and technical guidelines. Candidates should also have experience in creating national response plans and evaluating emergency preparedness arrangements.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the position.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers a competitive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
