Job Overview: The Technical Lead (Research Reactor Operation and Maintenance) plays a crucial role within the Research Reactor Section of the IAEA. This position involves managing project activities that focus on enhancing the operational standards of research reactors globally. The Technical Lead is responsible for gathering and disseminating best practices related to research reactor commissioning, operation, and maintenance. This includes improving reactor performance and integrated management systems, fostering partnerships, and assisting member states in evaluating and enhancing their operational practices. The role also involves coordinating the development of technical reports and guidance documents related to research reactors, ensuring that the IAEA's technical cooperation programs are effectively supported. The Technical Lead will work closely with various stakeholders, including member states, to facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building in the nuclear sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Lead will be expected to arrange and conduct various consultancy meetings, technical meetings, conferences, and workshops focused on research reactor operation and maintenance. This includes organizing peer review missions to assist member states in improving their operational practices. The Technical Lead will prepare technical documents and reports on various aspects of research reactors, including commissioning, operation, and modernization. They will also promote and evaluate Coordinated Research Projects, manage e-tools related to research reactor information, and provide technical assistance through relevant cooperation projects. Additionally, the Technical Lead will liaise with Permanent Missions and NGOs to plan and implement operational projects, collaborating with other divisions and international organizations to enhance the effectiveness of research reactor operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related technical field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 10 years of working experience in the nuclear field is required, including at least two years at the international level. Experience in research reactor design, commissioning, management, and modernization is essential. Familiarity with fuel cycle processes and research reactor infrastructure development is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate complex projects effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's) in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related technical discipline. A Bachelor's degree in the same field, combined with relevant experience, may also be acceptable. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and expertise in nuclear engineering principles, particularly as they relate to research reactors.
Experience: The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 years in the nuclear engineering field. This experience should include at least two years of work at the international level, focusing on research reactor design, commissioning, and operational management. Candidates with experience in project management and coordination within the nuclear sector will be favored, particularly those who have worked on modernization and refurbishment projects for research reactors.
Languages: Excellent command of English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes: The IAEA offers a competitive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at approximately US $103,165, along with a variable post adjustment and various benefits such as dependency allowances, rental subsidies, and education grants.
