Job Overview: The Evaluation Support Intern position at the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Kyrgyzstan is an unpaid internship opportunity designed for nationals of Kyrgyzstan. The intern will play a vital role in supporting the independent evaluation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for the period of 2023–202
This evaluation aims to assess various aspects of UN support to Kyrgyzstan, including its relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, coordination, sustainability, and impact. The intern will assist in coordinating the evaluation process, which involves engaging with multiple stakeholders such as government counterparts, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and development partners. The intern will be responsible for various tasks that support the evaluation process, including organizing meetings, managing documentation, and assisting with data analysis. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in evaluation processes within the UN system, develop professional skills, and contribute to meaningful development work in Kyrgyzstan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities that include:
Evaluation Process Support: Organizing and preparing meetings for the Evaluation Steering Committee and other related groups, scheduling interviews and consultations, supporting logistical arrangements for evaluation missions, maintaining evaluation calendars and databases, and preparing meeting notes and action-point matrices.
Documentation and Knowledge Management: Compiling and archiving evaluation-related documentation, maintaining an electronic repository of key documents, assisting in compiling reference materials for evaluation consultants, and supporting document quality control and file management.
Data and Analytical Support: Compiling and organizing quantitative and qualitative data, assisting in data cleaning and basic analysis, maintaining databases related to evaluation indicators, and contributing to evidence mapping exercises.
Stakeholder Engagement Support: Communicating with various stakeholders involved in the evaluation, preparing stakeholder lists and consultation plans, and monitoring stakeholder participation.
Reporting and Communications Support: Drafting summaries and presentations related to the evaluation, contributing to documenting lessons learned, and supporting visibility efforts related to evaluation milestones.
Administrative Support: Filing and record-keeping of evaluation correspondence, tracking deadlines and deliverables, and assisting with other evaluation management tasks as required. The intern will work under the supervision of the Data Management and Monitoring Officer and other members of the Evaluation Technical Management Team.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: they should be enrolled in or have recently completed a university degree in fields such as Economics, Public Policy, International Development, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Data Analytics, or another relevant discipline. Additionally, strong organizational and coordination skills, excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, are essential. Familiarity with data visualization tools is considered an asset, and experience with research, data collection, or evaluation activities is desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also necessary, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a student in the final year of a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or having completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. Applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship type they are applying for. This ensures that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the evaluation process.
Experience: While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, they must have a field of study that is closely related to the internship. This means that relevant academic experience or coursework is essential to ensure that the intern can effectively support the evaluation process and contribute to the UN's objectives in Kyrgyzstan.
Languages: Fluency in English and Russian, both oral and written, is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan. A working knowledge of Kyrgyz is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the intern's ability to engage effectively in the evaluation process.

They must be enrolled in a university program or have graduated within the past two years. Additionally, applicants must not have immediate relatives working in the UN Secretariat or UNRCO Kyrgyzstan. It is important to note that the internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
