Job Overview:
The Media Analyst consultancy role is integral to UN Women’s strategic priority of enhancing its global media presence and shaping public narratives around gender equality and women's rights. The consultant will operate in a dynamic and politically sensitive media landscape, providing support to the media team in managing complex news cycles and reputational risks. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including internal teams and external media partners, to ensure effective communication and advocacy for women's empowerment. The consultant will be expected to work autonomously while delivering media monitoring, analysis, and insights that inform strategic decisions. The role involves a high level of responsiveness and clear communication within a coordinated global communications framework, with the consultant reporting directly to the Media Relations Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for conducting daily media monitoring across global, regional, and national platforms, including print, broadcast, and digital media, as well as social media. This involves identifying trends, emerging narratives, and potential reputational risks relevant to UN Women’s mission. The consultant will contribute to the creation of concise media analysis reports, summarizing key narratives and sentiments, particularly during significant events and campaigns. Additionally, the consultant will track and analyze social media conversations using tools like Meltwater, identifying trends and influencers that align with UN Women’s priorities. The role also includes managing a global database of media contacts, ensuring accurate segmentation for outreach, and supporting strategic storytelling by identifying compelling narratives and media opportunities. Administrative support for media platforms and vendor coordination will also be part of the responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of media analysis and digital communications, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools, such as Meltwater and social listening platforms, is essential. Experience with media distribution tools like Mailchimp is also required. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated interest in gender equality, human rights, and social justice issues, with the ability to translate these into actionable media insights. Strong analytical skills and the capacity to work independently are crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Media, International Relations, or a related field is required for this position. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of experience in media analysis, digital communications, or a related field. Candidates should have a strong understanding of global media landscapes and social media ecosystems. Experience with media monitoring and analytics tools is essential, and familiarity with crisis communications and reputational monitoring is considered an asset. Experience in an international or multilateral environment is also desirable, as it aligns with UN Women’s global operations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, or any other UN official language, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
