Job Overview:
The position of Rechtsreferendar*in is situated within the GIZ Regionalbüro West, specifically in the WeDO team. This role is pivotal as it operates at the intersection of law, project management, and international cooperation. The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation, review, and implementation of service and financing contracts, providing legal and organizational support in project management. This includes assisting in procurement processes and applying relevant internal regulations and procedures of GIZ. The role also encompasses the design and execution of exchange formats such as workshops, study trips, and conferences, supporting project management in planning, executing, and reviewing activities. Potential areas of work may include issues related to foreign trade promotion, particularly concerning companies' access to international markets, as well as sustainable corporate governance (CSR). Additionally, the role may involve addressing current regulatory developments at the EU level, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and their implications for businesses and value chains.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Rechtsreferendar*in include:
  • Assisting in the preparation, review, and implementation of service and financing contracts, including support in procurement processes.
  • Providing legal and organizational support in project management, particularly in planning, executing, and reviewing project activities.
  • Supporting the design and execution of exchange formats (e.g., workshops, study trips, conferences), including coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Assisting in collaboration with partner institutions from administration, business, science, and civil society in Germany and Europe.
  • Preparing and compiling legal and technical analyses, briefings, and documentation.
  • Contributing to information and knowledge management within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have passed the First State Examination in Law and be currently engaged in legal preparatory service (Rechtsreferendariat). Ideally, applicants should have initial experience in development cooperation and prior experience in private sector promotion and vocational training. Candidates should be motivated, team-oriented, and able to quickly familiarize themselves with new topics. They must demonstrate the ability to work independently, structured, and reliably, and be proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, MS Teams).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes having completed the First State Examination in Law, which is a prerequisite for entering the legal preparatory service. This indicates a solid foundation in legal principles and practices, essential for the responsibilities of the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in development cooperation and private sector promotion. While specific years of experience are not mandated, any relevant internships or previous roles in similar fields will be advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in both German and English is mandatory, with excellent written communication skills required in both languages. Additionally, knowledge of French or Spanish is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this international role.
