Job Overview: The Data, Results and Strategic Foresight Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) within UN Women. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in annual reporting, results management, and strategic planning within the UN system. The intern will assist in various functions, including corporate reporting, data analysis, and strategic foresight initiatives. The role involves working closely with the Data Analysis and Monitoring Specialist to support annual reporting processes, maintain corporate reporting datasets, and contribute to innovative approaches that enhance reporting and transparency. The intern will also engage in strategic foresight initiatives, helping to prepare materials and communications that promote organizational learning and forward-thinking strategies. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Data Analysis and Monitoring Specialist. Key responsibilities include supporting annual reporting processes, assisting in the maintenance and validation of corporate reporting datasets, and contributing to the synthesis and communication of key results from annual reports. The intern will also support the maintenance and enhancement of the UN Women Transparency Portal, assist with updating content through the Content Management System, and contribute to quality assurance and testing of new portal features. Additionally, the intern will engage in strategic foresight initiatives, including organizing learning events and preparing external-facing materials. The role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as a proactive mindset to solve problems and contribute to innovative solutions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, with a strong analytical background. Advanced knowledge of Excel is desirable, along with prior knowledge of Results Based Management. Familiarity with content management systems and digital knowledge platforms is an asset. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and possess a keen interest in strategic foresight and digital transformation. Strong skills in developing PowerBI dashboards will be advantageous, as will experience in data analysis and results communication.
Educational Background: Applicants must have university studies in disciplines such as data science, statistics, international development, data communications, foresight, or a related field. Candidates should meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); have graduated with a university degree and be able to commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that requires the internship as part of the program requirements.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a foundational level of experience relevant to the responsibilities of the internship. While specific prior work experience may not be mandatory, any experience related to data analysis, reporting, or strategic planning will be beneficial. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a professional environment, particularly within the context of the UN system.
Languages: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required for this position. A working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's global mission.
Additional Notes: The internship is designed to provide a stipend to interns who are not receiving financial support from other sources, such as universities or other institutions, to help subsidize their basic living costs during the internship period.
