Job Overview:

The role involves engaging with fiscal policy approaches that continue to promote environmentally harmful sectors and business models in many partner countries. The intern will assist in mobilizing private capital for conservation efforts and will work on green public finance initiatives that create incentives for ecologically and socially sustainable economic activities. The intern will be involved in research and analysis related to green public finance, biodiversity financing, and private capital mobilization, particularly in the context of Brazil, Costa Rica, Indonesia, and Nigeria. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant environmental projects while gaining valuable experience in international development and finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of projects related to green and blue public finance reforms aimed at biodiversity protection. Your tasks will include conducting research and preparing analyses on current topics in green public finance and biodiversity financing, as well as exploring opportunities for mobilizing private capital. You will assist in knowledge management and information exchange, support public relations efforts for internal and external communication products, and provide organizational support for project activities, including the preparation and follow-up of workshops, meetings, and webinars. Additionally, you will create presentations and participate in meetings, taking minutes and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be pursuing a degree in economics, political economy, or a related field with relevance to climate and biodiversity financing. A solid understanding of public and private climate and biodiversity financing instruments and approaches, as well as knowledge of relevant actors, international processes, and global agreements, is essential. Previous experience in green fiscal policy through internships or as a student assistant is required, along with familiarity with private capital mobilization strategies. International experience from internships or exchange semesters in developing countries is also beneficial. Strong organizational skills, motivation, structured thinking, and the ability to work efficiently and independently are crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, or in a continuing education program that includes an internship as an integral component. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the last six months are also eligible to apply. A background in economics, political economy, or a related discipline is preferred, particularly with a focus on climate and biodiversity financing.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some prior experience in the field of green fiscal policy, which can be gained through internships or roles as a student assistant. Additionally, experience in international settings, particularly in developing countries, is advantageous and will enhance the candidate's understanding of the challenges and opportunities in sustainable finance.

Languages:
Fluency in both German and English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is considered a valuable asset, as it may facilitate communication with partners in relevant countries and enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
