Job Overview:
The position of Editor for UN Women ECA Regional Office involves significant responsibilities in editing and proofreading content for the organization's regional website and various knowledge products. The editor will ensure that all content is presented in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English, which is particularly important as much of the material originates from field offices where English may not be the native language. The role requires the editor to enhance the marketability of the website by crafting engaging language and titles that attract a broad audience, including the general public and relevant stakeholders. The editor will work under the supervision of the Programme Specialist and Regional Communications Specialist, collaborating closely with other UN Women staff to ensure that all content is up-to-date, relevant, and aligned with UN Women’s writing style guidelines. This position is crucial for maintaining the quality and effectiveness of UN Women’s communication efforts in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Editor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: writing, editing, and proofreading UN Women knowledge products such as publications, brochures, briefs, factsheets, and policy documents; writing and editing web articles for UN Women’s official regional website; ensuring consistency, accuracy, and grammatical correctness in all materials; adhering to UN Women’s writing style guidelines; liaising with UN Women Programme Specialists, Regional Communications Specialists, and other relevant staff for review and finalization processes; organizing content in a clear and understandable manner; and using attractive language to engage larger audiences. The editor will also be expected to manage deadlines effectively and maintain a high standard of quality in all outputs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, English, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience as an editor or writer, with outstanding writing skills and extensive experience in creating and editing website content. Experience in editing materials for human rights-related international organizations is essential, and UN experience is considered an asset. A proven record of writing and/or editing in the area of gender equality and women's empowerment is also advantageous, as is experience with feature stories. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Communications, Journalism, English, International Relations, or Social Sciences. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of qualifying experience, indicating that the organization values practical experience alongside formal education.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in editing and writing, particularly in contexts that require strong writing skills and attention to detail. Experience in creating and editing content for websites, especially for organizations focused on human rights and gender equality, is crucial. Familiarity with UN operations and standards is a significant advantage, as is a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials under tight deadlines.

Languages:
Native proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. This requirement underscores the importance of clear communication in the role of an editor, as the editor will be responsible for ensuring that all content is accessible and engaging for a diverse audience. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly stated as a requirement.

Additional Notes:
This position is a home-based consultancy, meaning that the consultant will work remotely. Payment will be made in full upon the satisfactory completion of work, with the consultant required to fill out a timesheet detailing daily work completed. The time needed to complete all tasks will be agreed upon with the ECA RO Programme Specialist prior to commencement. The role emphasizes the importance of integrity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity, aligning with UN Women’s core values and competencies. The organization is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all employment decisions are based on qualifications and organizational needs.
