Job Overview: The National UN Youth Volunteer will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal and the direct supervision of the AFAOR (Programme) and M&E Specialist. This position involves close collaboration with the program team to assist in various monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tasks. The volunteer will be responsible for preparing, updating, monitoring, and reporting on project log frames and M&E frameworks. They will collect and consolidate project progress, achievements, challenges, and risks for management meetings and reporting purposes. The role also includes maintaining project monitoring databases, developing monitoring tools, and participating in field visits to verify data and validate project results. The volunteer will support the documentation of project achievements and engage in activities that promote volunteerism within the community, contributing to the UN Volunteers programme mandate.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National UN Youth Volunteer include: assisting in the preparation and updating of project log frames and M&E frameworks; collecting and consolidating project progress and challenges for reporting; assisting the M&E specialist in preparing consolidated delivery plans; monitoring the status of ongoing and pipeline projects; maintaining project monitoring databases and indicator tracking systems; developing and maintaining monitoring tools and reporting templates; participating in field monitoring visits and data verification exercises; documenting project achievements and best practices; and performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The volunteer is also encouraged to engage with communities and promote voluntary action through various activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, commitment to continuous learning, effective planning and organizing skills, strong communication abilities, and flexibility. They should have a good understanding of operations relevant to FAO Nepal and be able to liaise with various stakeholders. The ability to work independently and manage information confidentially is essential. Candidates should also show a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and FAO's mission.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically a degree in a field related to agriculture, food security, or international development. Candidates should possess knowledge of monitoring and evaluation practices and be familiar with data management systems.
Experience: The position requires some level of experience in project management, monitoring, and evaluation. Candidates should have experience working in a multicultural environment and be able to demonstrate their ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of local languages spoken in Nepal is considered an asset. Good communication skills in both spoken and written forms are essential for this role.
Additional Notes: The duration of the assignment is indicated in the job posting, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. There is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The volunteer will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance to cover living expenses, and life, health, and permanent disability insurance will be provided. Travel to the duty station and a Settling-In-Grant will be offered if the duty station is not within commuting distance from the recruitment location.
