Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located in the Sustainable Development and Integrated Planning Section (SDIPS) of the Macroeconomic, Finance, Governance and Planning Division (MFGPD) at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Section Chief and relevant responsible officers, contributing to the division's mission of supporting African member States in advancing inclusive economic transformation. The intern's role will involve engaging in research and analysis related to sustainable economic development, development planning, urban planning, governance, and poverty reduction in Africa. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the work of the United Nations, particularly in the context of sustainable development and integrated planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include: researching and analyzing topics related to sustainable economic development, development planning, urban planning, governance, and poverty reduction in Africa; providing inputs to and editing publications, papers, and other documents; liaising with stakeholders within the MFGPD; supporting the organization of meetings and events; assisting with outreach activities; participating in day-to-day operational tasks of the division, which may involve responding to requests for information, developing presentations, and liaising with partner organizations; and performing administrative tasks as assigned. The intern's daily responsibilities will depend on their background, skills, and the priorities of the division during the internship period.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (i.e., second-level university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (i.e., at the bachelor’s level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications. The intern is expected to demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. They should also have the ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme. This indicates that candidates should have a strong academic foundation relevant to the work of the United Nations, particularly in fields related to economics, social sciences, international relations, or sustainable development.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates are encouraged to have relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this internship programme, fluency in spoken and written English is required, while a working knowledge of French is considered an advantage. Additional Notes:
The internship is full-time, unpaid, and has a duration of 6 months. Interns are expected to work five days per week, totaling 35 hours.
