Job Overview:
The Project Director will be responsible for leading and directing the implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in Ethiopia. This role is crucial for enhancing Polio Eradication and related Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security priorities. The Project Director will oversee the capacity building of laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. This position requires a blend of technical and managerial skills, as the Project Director will manage all project activities, personnel, and budgetary considerations. The role involves liaising with various stakeholders, including the United States Department of State Missions, Ethiopian government representatives, and other partners involved in polio eradication efforts. The Project Director will also be responsible for developing and implementing annual work plans, ensuring project completion within budget and on schedule, and providing oversight for technical and financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will be accountable for creating and maintaining a safe and equitable work environment, ensuring a harassment-free culture. Responsibilities include planning, directing, and coordinating project activities to meet goals within time and funding constraints. The Project Director will establish work plans, manage project teams, and ensure compliance with policies. This role involves direct management of technical, program, finance, and operational staff, reviewing project proposals, and managing in-country relationships with government counterparts and partners. The Project Director will serve as the primary contact for collaboration with stakeholders, lead the in-country team, and provide guidance and training to staff. Additionally, the Project Director will ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and comply with FHI 360 and donor regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices. Familiarity with international polio eradication efforts and Global Health Security frameworks is highly preferred. Excellent project management skills are essential, including the ability to develop annual work plans and oversee monitoring and evaluation plans. Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills are required, along with prior experience managing relationships with government and implementing partners. Leadership skills in managing staff within a matrixed organization are crucial, as well as strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree or its international equivalent in public health or a related health field is required, with a Master's degree preferred. A Project Management Certification is considered an advantage.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in line management with increasing responsibility in designing, implementing, and managing large development programs. Preference will be given to those with experience managing U.S. government-funded programs. Strong financial management skills and familiarity with compliance regulations are necessary, along with knowledge of polio eradication activities and experience in leading complex, multidisciplinary projects.

Languages:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory. Proficiency in Amharic (reading, writing, and speaking) is also required, as it is essential for effective communication within the local context.

Additional Notes:
This position is expected to require travel of 10% to 25%. The hiring salary range for this role is between USD 50,000 and 65,000 annually, depending on factors such as relevant experience and education.
