Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Economic and Environmental Department (EED) of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek. The Environmental unit is tasked with the effective implementation of both the Unified Budget (UB) and Extra-Budgetary (ExB) projects that focus on critical areas such as environmental security, disaster risk management, and the promotion of a green economy. The selected intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of the POiB’s mandate and commitments in these areas, particularly as they pertain to Kyrgyzstan. The intern will work under the supervision of the National Environmental Officer and will be expected to contribute to various projects and initiatives that align with the office's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of tasks that are essential for the functioning of the Environmental unit. These include assisting in the implementation of UB and ExB project activities, supporting the supervisor and team by preparing written outputs such as briefing papers, minutes, and internal meeting reports. The intern will also assist in arranging meetings with implementing partners and stakeholders, both online and in-person, and help in the preparation and organization of project activities. Additional responsibilities include receiving and accepting goods from suppliers, preparing payment documents for delivered goods and services, liaising with Administrative, Finance, and Procurement units to follow up on procurement and payment processes, translating texts as requested (in Russian and English), and performing other administrative tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 19 years old and have completed two years of full-time studies at an accredited institution, or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate within two years prior to the application deadline. Relevant fields of study include environmental studies, environmental policy, international relations, political science, public administration, law, economics, or similar disciplines. Knowledge of the Central Asian region and its social and political processes is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate professional fluency in English, possess excellent communication skills, and have strong organizational abilities. Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Russian is required, while knowledge of the Kyrgyz language is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have good analytical, research, and drafting skills, and previous experience with international organizations or knowledge of environmental issues would be advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes having completed at least two years of full-time studies at an accredited institution or having obtained a first or advanced degree in a relevant field no longer than two years prior to the application deadline. Fields of study that are particularly relevant include environmental studies, environmental policy, international relations, political science, public administration, law, and economics. Languages: Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken communication skills. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in Russian, as this is essential for translation tasks and communication within the office. Knowledge of the Kyrgyz language is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to engage with local stakeholders and contribute to the office's initiatives effectively.
Additional Notes: The OSCE is unable to provide any remuneration or cover expenses incurred by the intern during their stay, nor will it reimburse travel expenses. However, the selected intern may participate in a group health insurance scheme at their own expense, while the OSCE will cover life and accident/disability insurance.
