The UN Women Nordic Office, located in the UN City in Copenhagen, is responsible for strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, advocacy, and communication in the Nordic and Baltic regions. It collaborates with various partners, including governments, parliamentarians, media, civil society, private sector, and other UN agencies, to advance gender equality.

Job Overview:
As a Partnerships and Visibility intern at the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, you will gain valuable insights into UN communication strategies and methods, as well as an understanding of global challenges and current gender equality efforts. The internship offers excellent learning opportunities through engagement with diverse stakeholders in the Nordic and Baltic regions, both within and outside the UN, to promote gender equality worldwide. Interns will be part of a dynamic office and the broader UN City community, enhancing their professional development and networking opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, the intern will be responsible for conducting national political research on issues related to UN Women's mandate, monitoring national media coverage in Nordic countries, assisting in event planning and high-level visits, supporting the translation and distribution of corporate updates, and drafting content for social media to enhance UN Women's visibility. The intern will also organize outreach activities with stakeholders, set up meetings and events to promote cooperation with various entities, and participate in joint advocacy and communication activities with UN sister organizations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in the work of UN Women and the ideals of the UN Charter. They should possess good knowledge of social media, media monitoring, and communication strategies. The ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter with multi-tasking abilities, good analytical and writing skills, and the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Zoom, is essential, along with the ability to present information clearly and effectively in both online and offline formats.

Educational Background:
Applicants should have university studies in disciplines such as political science, development studies, gender studies, international relations, media and political communication, journalism, or equivalent. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final academic year of a first university degree program, be enrolled in a mandatory national service program, or have recently graduated with a relevant university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in areas related to communication, research, or advocacy, preferably within an international organization or non-profit sector. Interns should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment, as well as an understanding of the UN system and its operations.

Languages:
Proficient communication skills in English (both written and oral) are required, along with proficiency in a Nordic language. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

  • Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to help cover basic living costs during the internship.
