The SOC operates 24/7 at the UN Duty Station in Ankara, Turkey, and plays a crucial role in monitoring and coordinating security communications. The organization is dedicated to ensuring the safety of UN personnel and assets, providing a structured response to security incidents, and maintaining effective communication channels within the UNSMS framework.

Job Overview:
The Security Operations Centre Assistant (SOCA) is tasked with supporting the daily operations of the Security Communications System (SCS) under the supervision of the Designated Official/Area Security Coordinator. This role involves receiving, transmitting, and relaying security messages, monitoring field missions, and providing immediate support during security incidents. The SOCA will also be responsible for maintaining administrative data related to security communications, conducting training for UN personnel in Turkey, and ensuring the operational status of the SCS. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, gaining valuable experience while collaborating with a diverse team committed to the UN's mission in Turkey.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SOCA will execute a variety of operational support tasks, including: receiving and relaying security messages; escalating notifications of security incidents; monitoring field mission movements; facilitating immediate support during incidents; maintaining communication links; notifying security focal points; ensuring proper usage of the SCS; verifying operational status; conducting personnel headcounts; and providing training on the SCS. Additionally, the SOCA will manage information services by informing the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) of incidents, monitoring security-related media, and preparing daily situation reports. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining staff lists, warden lists, and contact details for emergency services, as well as preparing daily reports as directed by senior security personnel.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a good knowledge of SCS equipment and the ability to assist telecommunications specialists. Experience with web-based management systems and graphic information systems is essential, along with proficiency in office software packages such as MS Word and Excel. A valid driving license (B) is desirable, and prior experience in security and safety, particularly within the UN system or an international NGO, is preferred.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as telecommunications, radio operations, or information technology is required. Alternatively, candidates with a secondary school completion and relevant training or experience may be considered. In the absence of a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of four years of relevant experience is required alongside a high school diploma.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience in telecommunications, radio operations, or a related field, particularly if they hold a Bachelor’s degree. For those without a degree, four years of relevant experience is necessary. Experience in the security and safety field is highly desirable, especially within the context of the UN or international NGOs.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Turkish, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. This requirement ensures effective communication within the diverse team and with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is exclusively available for Turkish nationals. The expected duration of employment is until December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The role is full-time and involves working in a shift-based environment to ensure 24/7 operational support.
