Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) serves as the official representative of Solidarités International in Sudan, overseeing the smooth operation of the mission. The CD is responsible for proposing and implementing the mission strategy in alignment with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. This role involves monitoring project progress to ensure compliance with SI's charter and internal procedures, mobilizing necessary resources for effective program execution, and ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of the teams on the ground. The CD also acts as the primary liaison with SI's headquarters, maintaining strong engagement with the coordination-team" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">coordination team based in N'Djamena and representing SI within the Sudan INGO community. The position requires significant flexibility, as the CD must navigate between various locations, including N'Djamena, eastern Sudan, and regional hubs such as Addis Ababa and Nairobi, while ensuring a regular presence in Port Sudan for meetings and coordination efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director's responsibilities include:
  • Leading the mission strategy development and implementation, ensuring alignment with the humanitarian context.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project progress, ensuring compliance with SI's internal and contractual procedures.
  • Mobilizing and managing material and financial resources necessary for program execution.
  • Coordinating and supervising the teams in place, ensuring their safety and security.
  • Acting as the primary liaison for SI's headquarters, facilitating communication and reporting.
  • Engaging with local authorities, donors, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for SI's initiatives.
  • Representing SI in high-level meetings and forums, advocating for the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Addressing challenges and adapting strategies as necessary to respond to the evolving humanitarian landscape in Sudan.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in a similar leadership position, demonstrating strong management and leadership skills. Networking abilities, donor engagement experience, and strategic development skills are essential. Candidates should also have the capacity to mobilize necessary resources and demonstrate effective delegation, organization, and planning skills.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs or an equivalent qualification is required for this position. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in humanitarian principles, project management, and strategic planning, which are critical for the role of Country Director.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 5 years in a similar leadership role. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing complex humanitarian programs and leading diverse teams in challenging environments. Experience in strategic planning, project monitoring, and resource mobilization is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international stakeholders. Proficiency in French is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with local partners and enhance engagement in the region.

  • The role is based in N'Djamena, Sudan, and involves significant travel within the country and to regional hubs. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3,740, which consists of a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical and surgical costs, dental care, and repatriation. Family benefits include housing allowances, per diem for non-working spouses, and support for children's education in international schools. Living conditions in N'Djamena are relatively good, with access to various amenities and a supportive work environment.
