Job Overview: The Editorial Manager at UN Women plays a crucial role in leading the strategic planning, development, and delivery of high-quality editorial content for both external and internal communications. This position is under the guidance of the Deputy Chief of Communication & Advocacy and is responsible for ensuring coherent narratives and strong editorial standards across various platforms. The Editorial Manager integrates search engine optimization (SEO) and generative AI optimization into the editorial processes to maximize reach and impact. The role involves supervising an internal communicationanalyst and a team of editorial consultants, ensuring effective workflows and collaboration across different communication teams. The Editorial Manager is accountable for the quality and strategic alignment of all editorial outputs across UN Women's global digital platforms, carrying significant reputational risk as the final editorial authority.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Editorial Strategy, Planning and Concept Development: Lead the editorial planning and concept development for the global website and intranet, maintaining editorial calendars aligned with organizational priorities. Translate strategic objectives into compelling storylines for diverse audiences.
Team Leadership and Supervision: Manage and supervise the editorial and internal communications teams, providing direction and performance management.
Search Engine and Generative AI Optimization: Integrate SEO best practices into editorial workflows and oversee content optimization for discoverability.
Content Review, Quality Control and Approval: Serve as the final editorial authority, ensuring compliance with UN style guidelines.
Commissioning and Field Content Coordination: Commission editorial pieces from various teams and edit content for global audiences.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Analyze performance metrics to assess editorial impact and inform future planning.
Collaboration on Digital Platforms: Work with the digital team to improve the organization’s website and digital platforms.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong knowledge of digital publishing and editorial standards, with proven ability to translate complex priorities into engaging content. They should have expert knowledge of editorial strategy design, including content planning and SEO. Excellent writing and editing skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines. Experience in leading hybrid teams is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced degree (master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, international relations, development studies, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in editorial management and digital communications within an international organization or a comparable large institution. Experience managing editorial operations for high-traffic websites and leading personnel in multicultural settings is essential. Familiarity with SEO integration and generative AI tools for content development is also required.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an asset.
