The Monitoring and Enhancement of Remote Sensing for National Forest Inventory (MERANTI) project is a three-year initiative funded by Norway and managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Office in Jakarta. The project aims to enhance Indonesia's National Forest Inventory (NFI) by integrating advanced land-monitoring techniques to improve the accuracy, availability, transparency, and timeliness of forest and tree resource data. The MERANTI project is part of a broader effort to strengthen Indonesia's capacity to generate high-quality forest information, which is essential for national strategic planning, climate change mitigation, and fulfilling international commitments to global climate and sustainable development goals. Job Overview:
The Forest Monitoring National Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the successful implementation of the MERANTI project. This position involves coordinating between the FAO, the Directorate General of Forestry Planning/IPSDH, and other relevant agencies and partners to ensure effective delivery of project results. The coordinator will oversee the implementation of project activities, focusing on long-term sustainability and institutionalization of the National Forest Monitoring System. The role requires facilitating knowledge management and dissemination related to project outputs, as well as monitoring and reporting on the progress of project implementation. The coordinator will also be responsible for advising stakeholders on feasible approaches and strategies for project success, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring effective collaboration with various initiatives related to forest monitoring in Indonesia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Forest Monitoring National Project Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: advising and assisting the Directorate General of Forestry Planning/IPSDH and other stakeholders in developing strategies for project implementation; identifying and assessing risks and opportunities; coordinating advisory and technical assistance activities from FAO Headquarters and regional offices; facilitating stakeholder participation and collaboration; ensuring effective coordination with the UN-REDD Programme and other relevant initiatives; maintaining collaboration with the FAO Country Office in Jakarta; developing and implementing project workplans, budgets, and reports; monitoring project progress and ensuring data availability for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E); arranging consultations and meetings to secure inputs from partners; supporting knowledge sharing and documentation of project outputs; and performing any other relevant tasks assigned by FAO in coordination with the Forestry project team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: a postgraduate degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, or a closely related field. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be considered in lieu of a postgraduate degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least 8 years of professional experience in coordinating programmes and projects in natural resource management or environmental conservation for those with a postgraduate degree, or at least 12 years of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates must also possess a working knowledge of English and Indonesian languages and be nationals of Indonesia.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, or a closely related discipline. In cases where candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree, they must have substantial professional experience to compensate for the lack of a postgraduate qualification. It is essential that the educational qualifications are obtained from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The level of experience required for the Forest Monitoring National Project Coordinator position includes a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in coordinating programmes and projects related to natural resource management or environmental conservation for candidates with a postgraduate degree. For those with a Bachelor’s degree, at least 12 years of relevant professional experience is necessary. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading teams, planning and organizing work, and collaborating with government agencies, UN agencies, or international NGOs. Experience in forest monitoring, forest inventory, remote sensing, or land assessment is considered an advantage.

Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of both English and Indonesian languages. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders and partners involved in the project.
