Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of UNICEF personnel and their eligible family members, as well as safeguarding UNICEF premises, assets, and resources at the duty station. The incumbent will be supervised by the Security Manager and is expected to provide technical, operational, and administrative assistance to the Chief of Field Office. Key responsibilities include conducting daily security reviews, undertaking field trips to support sub-offices, maintaining security databases, and ensuring effective implementation of contingency plans. The role requires a proactive approach to security management, including being on call 24/7 to provide necessary support and conducting security training courses for UNICEF personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive daily reviews of the security situation in Tartous and Lattakia.
  • Undertake field trips to support sub-offices or UNICEF field missions on short notice as required.
  • Ensure that contingency plans are updated and effectively implemented.
  • Maintain databases of all security-related information and documents.
  • Track all visiting UNICEF staff in designated areas and register staff movements in coastal areas.
  • Maintain, update, and regularly test/exercise the NFO Warden System and Communication Trees.
  • Support the Security Manager in investigations, in-depth incident reports, and security risk assessments.
  • Be on call 24/7 to provide security and safety support to the Chief of Field Office, Security Manager, UNICEF personnel, and dependents.
  • Conduct security training courses for UNICEF personnel and security guards. 1
  • Provide security briefings for new staff members and visiting staff. 1
  • Monitor compliance with UNSMS rules and policies.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include completion of secondary education, supplemented by relevant technical courses and/or university courses in a relevant discipline. A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a security-related environment is required. Desirable qualifications include experience within the UN system and a thorough understanding of the security situation and dynamics within the Area of Responsibility (AoR). Possession of a Local Security Associate certification (LSA), Security Certification Program (SCP) certification, or an equivalent security certification program is also desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, with additional relevant technical courses or university courses in a relevant discipline being advantageous. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the Security Associate effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a security-related environment. This level of experience is crucial as it ensures that the candidate has developed the necessary skills and knowledge to manage security risks effectively and respond to emergencies in a humanitarian context.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. These language skills are essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders, ensuring that security protocols and information are clearly understood and implemented. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
