Job Overview: The National ProjectCoordinator (NPC) will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the implementation of several GEF-funded projects in Vanuatu. This role involves working closely with various government ministries, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to ensure the successful execution of projects aimed at enhancing transparency in the implementation and monitoring of Vanuatu’s Nationally Determined Contribution. The NPC will play a crucial role in facilitating communication and collaboration among different entities involved in the projects, ensuring that all activities align with the strategic goals of the FAO and the government of Vanuatu. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, with a focus on achieving intended outcomes and fostering partnerships that support sustainable development initiatives in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Project Coordinator will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: coordinating and providing oversight for both national and international personnel recruited for the project; liaising with the National Project Director and other stakeholders to enhance project implementation; coordinating with various departments regarding project assessments and procedures; supporting the signing of project documents with relevant ministries; facilitating project inception workshops and meetings; establishing project management units; and performing additional tasks as required by the country office. The NPC will ensure that all project activities are executed efficiently and effectively, adhering to timelines and budgetary constraints, while also fostering a collaborative environment among all parties involved.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in forestry, natural resources management, seascape management, environment, climate change, ecology, or related fields. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant experience in planning, project implementation, and management of GEF-funded projects or programs is required. Candidates should also demonstrate a working knowledge of English and be nationals of Vanuatu. The role demands strong organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, and a commitment to achieving project goals in alignment with FAO's mission.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as forestry, natural resources management, seascape management, environment, climate change, or ecology. The degree must be obtained from an institution accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED), ensuring that the educational qualifications meet international standards.
Experience: Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in the planning, implementation, and management of GEF-funded projects or programs. This experience should encompass all aspects of project execution, including planning, monitoring, and evaluation, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of project management principles and practices. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations in the Pacific region is highly desirable, particularly in contexts related to climate change and sustainable development.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the FAO and with various stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and partners.
