Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the functioning of a humanitarian NGO and the connections between headquarters, coordination, and field operations. Interns will gain insights into the organization of a mission and its operational constraints, familiarize themselves with field roles and humanitarian actors, and learn about procurement procedures and financial tracking tools. The internship will also involve participating in field activities through site visits, allowing interns to engage directly with the organization's work and its impact on communities in need.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be involved in various logistical and financial tasks, including supporting market studies, researching suppliers and donations, participating in procurement procedures, and tracking orders. They will organize transportation, delivery, and storage of goods, manage and archive logistical documents, and assist in preparing monthly logistical packs. Additionally, the intern will coordinate travel arrangements for team members, support inter-base freight management, and conduct inventory checks. In terms of distributions, the intern will research donations, assemble kits, and participate in field distributions. Financially, the intern will assist with accounting tasks such as collecting, verifying, and archiving documents, updating accounting journals, and participating in monthly financial closures. They will also contribute to budget tracking and financial monitoring tools. General responsibilities include attending team meetings and providing cross-sectional support to different areas as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have a background in humanitarian logistics, accounting and/or financial management, project management, development, international relations, or political science. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, is essential. Strong analytical and writing skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, curiosity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and teamwork capabilities are also required. An interest in the context of water access in France and a commitment to the principles and work of Solidarités International are important. A valid driver's license (Permis B) is mandatory for this position.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have completed a degree or training in fields related to humanitarian logistics, accounting, financial management, project management, development studies, international relations, or political science. This educational background will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the organization's mission and operations.
Experience: While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not strictly required for this internship position. However, any relevant experience in logistics, finance, or humanitarian work will be considered an asset. The organization is looking for motivated individuals eager to learn and contribute to the humanitarian sector.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory due to the location and nature of the work. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for communication with international teams and stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the regions of operation may be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: This internship is a six-month position based in Nantes, France, under a mandatory internship agreement. The intern will receive a stipend of €5.60 per hour, calculated based on actual hours worked each month (approximately 154 hours per month, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each). Transportation costs will be reimbursed at 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL, and interns will receive meal vouchers worth €8.90 per day worked, with a 60% contribution from the organization.
