Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Registered Nurse will work under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer or designated representatives, performing a variety of clinical and medico-administrative duties. This role involves direct patient care, including checking vital signs, administering medications, assisting in medical procedures, and responding to emergencies. The nurse will also be responsible for maintaining medical records, managing medical inventories, and ensuring the readiness of medical equipment. The position requires a proactive approach to patient care and collaboration with medical teams to ensure high-quality healthcare services are delivered to the community.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Registered Nurse will undertake a range of clinical duties, including but not limited to: checking patients' vital signs, administering medications (both oral and injections), assisting doctors with wound dressing, and providing necessary care. The nurse will respond to emergency calls, perform ECGs, and conduct blood tests for glucose, malaria, and COVID-19 antigen. Responsibilities also include preparing patients for interventions, escorting them to medical facilities, and maintaining patient safety. The nurse will manage the emergency room and consultation rooms, ensuring all equipment is functional and ready for use. Additionally, the nurse will maintain medical records, manage medical unit records, and assist in procuring medical supplies. The role requires effective communication with patients and collaboration with medical teams to ensure comprehensive care.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid nursing license and demonstrate a strong understanding of nursing practices and procedures relevant to the UN context. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a multicultural environment, and a commitment to the values and ethical standards of the UN. Proficiency in medical record management and familiarity with medical equipment is essential. Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role based in Kosovo, which is designated as a family duty station. The living conditions in Kosovo are reasonable, with access to housing and basic amenities. The UNV Support Office will assist with housing arrangements upon arrival. The role may involve working in potentially hazardous conditions, requiring adaptability and resilience. The UN provides a clinic for staff health needs, and there are no specific health risks associated with living in Kosovo.
