Job Overview:
The Data Privacy Specialist position at the IMF is designed to strengthen the organization's personal data privacy framework. This role requires a strong understanding of privacy laws and regulations, as well as proven experience in managing privacy risks within large International Financial Institutions (IFIs). The specialist will report to the Chief Data Privacy Officer and will work collaboratively with various departments, including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">information security, procurement, human resources, communications, and legal, to identify and mitigate privacy risks. The position involves advancing the IMF's privacy program and providing expert guidance on privacy risks, particularly those associated with new technologies and data usage.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Privacy Risk Advisory and Compliance: Provide expert guidance on privacy risks and internal privacy rules; integrate privacy risk management into IMF operations; conduct privacy impact assessments and recommend mitigation measures; evaluate procurement and third-party agreements, drafting necessary data protection safeguards; manage personal data breaches, including conducting impact analyses and making recommendations for notifications and after-action reporting; address data subject requests and complaints in collaboration with relevant departments; advise on cross-departmental initiatives to ensure alignment with privacy standards.
  • Privacy Framework Development and Risk Monitoring: Regularly review and update the IMF’s data privacy framework to ensure it aligns with the organization's risk appetite and global standards; benchmark privacy practices against those of other international organizations for continuous improvement; develop metrics to monitor privacy risks, incidents, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
  • Training and Awareness: Represent the Data Privacy Office (DPO) on Fund committees and at external events; contribute to the development of risk-based privacy training for staff, managers, and project teams; promote privacy awareness through targeted initiatives; provide expert input to enhance understanding of privacy risks associated with emerging technologies and data use.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree or equivalent in Law, Information Security, Public Policy, International Relations, Data Governance, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of relevant work experience. Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of two years of experience in a related position at Grade A10 or equivalent will also be considered. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of global data protection laws and privacy standards, including GDPR and CCPA, and frameworks relevant to International Financial Institutions. Proven experience in providing guidance on privacy and data protection issues within IFIs is essential, as is the ability to develop and enhance privacy governance programs. Experience in advising on privacy risks in procurement processes, AI systems, personal data breaches, and international data transfers is also required.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Law, Information Security, Public Policy, International Relations, or Data Governance is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complex legal and regulatory frameworks that govern data privacy and protection.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of four years of relevant work experience in data privacy and protection, particularly within International Financial Institutions. Alternatively, candidates with at least two years of experience in a related position at Grade A10 or equivalent will be considered. Experience in managing or responding to privacy audits, regulatory assessments, and internal compliance reviews across various regulatory contexts is highly desirable.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as the role requires strong spoken and written communication skills to articulate complex technical privacy concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required for this position.
