Job Overview: The WBG is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional for the position of Special Representative to the United States. This role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the WBG's institutional relationships with the US government and other relevant stakeholders. The Special Representative will report to the Corporate and External Communications (CER) Department and will be responsible for ensuring that all relevant WBG teams are informed about the CER's mission. The CER aims to deliver financial and political support for the WBG, strengthen its role as a global thought leader in development, and manage corporate communications and global engagement with key stakeholders. The Special Representative will lead a WBG-wide team in building and maintaining strategic relationships with key counterparts in government, civil society organizations, and academia, ensuring a coordinated approach to stakeholder engagement that aligns with the WBG's strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The US Special Representative will be responsible for a variety of activities, including: establishing and maintaining close relations with key leaders in governmental and non-governmental constituencies; implementing a proactive outreach strategy; managing government relations and communications; representing the WBG on complex and politically sensitive issues; ensuring effective collaboration with other WBG units; advising on priority issues for WBG engagement; supporting the IFC in identifying potential new clients; leading and motivating a cross-WBG team; managing the annual work program of the US team; ensuring resource management compliance; and contributing to the development and communication of corporate policies and strategies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience in political science, international relations, development policy, strategic communications, or related fields. They should have strong experience with US Executive and legislative branches, knowledge of US agencies and DFIs, and in-depth knowledge of development issues facing multilateral institutions. The ability to lead business development efforts, interact with senior management, and analyze complex issues is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, both oral and written, and have a proven track record of working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in political science, international relations, development policy, strategic communications, or a related field is required. Candidates with equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, particularly in roles that involve interaction with US government agencies, legislative bodies, and multilateral development institutions. Experience in strategic communications and relationship management is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus but is not required.
