Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, dedicated to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI operates in over 40 countries, working closely with governments and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems. Initially established to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic, CHAI has since expanded its focus to include a wide range of health issues, including infectious diseases like COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes. The organization emphasizes the importance of sustainable impact, ensuring that programs are designed to scale nationally and that learnings are shared globally. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, recognizing that a diverse workforce enhances its mission and effectiveness.
Job Overview: The Manager position at CHAI's COO's Office is a pivotal role that supports high-impact, organization-wide strategic initiatives. This position is designed for individuals who thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution, working closely with senior leadership to shape organizational priorities and address complex challenges. The COO's Office is responsible for driving organizational transformation aligned with CHAI's 5-year strategy, overseeing over 35 country programs across three geographical regions, and leading various functional teams, including Program Performance Management, HR, Operations, and IT. The Manager will report directly to the Chief of Staff to the COO and will collaborate with an Associate and Senior Associate in the office. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and effective collaboration with leaders across program, country, and operational teams. Depending on qualifications, the position may be offered at either the Manager or Senior Manager level.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Manager will be responsible for driving high-priority projects from inception to implementation, managing multiple workstreams that involve diverse stakeholder groups. Key responsibilities include designing and executing rigorous problem-solving approaches related to internal organizational strategy, such as organizational design, culture, and performance. The Manager will dynamically manage competing demands and shifting priorities to meet the evolving needs of the organization. Building trusted relationships with teams across CHAI is essential to provide strategic support on key change initiatives. The role also involves developing executive-ready presentations and communications that are data-driven and effectively synthesize complex information into clear narratives. Additionally, the Manager may have direct line management responsibilities for an Associate-level position, with minimal travel expected (10-20%) based on project needs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess 6–10 years of relevant work experience in fast-paced, results-oriented environments, with prior management consulting experience strongly preferred. A proven track record of independently leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives from conception to completion in ambiguous environments is essential. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities are required, along with the ability to structure ill-defined problems and synthesize insights from diverse data sources. Experience working effectively in global, multicultural contexts and the ability to collaborate remotely across geographies and time zones are also important. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to operate with high autonomy in unstructured, rapidly evolving situations while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. Prior people management experience is advantageous.
Educational Background: An MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred for this position, as it provides the necessary theoretical foundation and practical insights required for effective management and strategic decision-making within a complex organization like CHAI.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have 6–10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in demanding and fast-paced environments. Experience in management consulting is highly valued, as it equips candidates with the skills needed to navigate complex strategic initiatives. A proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage diverse teams is crucial, along with experience in organizational strategy, transformation, or change management initiatives within global organizations.
Languages: While specific language requirements are not mentioned, proficiency in English is mandatory given the global nature of the organization. Additional languages may be beneficial, particularly those relevant to the regions in which CHAI operates, enhancing communication and collaboration with local teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position may be offered at either the Manager or Senior Manager level, depending on the qualifications of the candidate. The role is full-time, and while it is based in Cambodia, it may involve some remote collaboration with teams across different countries. CHAI is committed to providing a fair and inclusive work environment, and it values diversity in its workforce.
