Job Overview:
The Budget and Monitoring Unit (BMU) within IOM Afghanistan plays a crucial role in ensuring financial accountability and operational efficiency across various programs. This position is integral to the Resource Management Unit, focusing on the comprehensive management of budgeting processes. Responsibilities include drafting proposals, coordinating with donors, overseeing PRIMA workflow, and activating projects. The unit is tasked with conducting regular analyses of burn rates, reconciling expenditures, and facilitating multi-sectoral financial reviews to optimize resource utilization. The intern will engage in structured reporting and maintain continuous communication with program managers to strengthen internal financial controls and support evidence-based decision-making. The proactive approach of the BMU significantly enhances the organization's capacity to deliver timely and accountable humanitarian assistance in complex operational environments. The intern will work under the supervision of the Resource Management Officer and the National Finance Officer, collaborating closely with relevant units at the Country Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for supporting the creation and timely updates of project entries in PRIMA, assisting in monthly projectization planning and data entry in PULSE, and maintaining a project reporting tracker to ensure timely donor submissions. Additional responsibilities include monitoring service fee projects, supporting expenditure tracking against approved budgets, facilitating communication with program units regarding financial commitments and project closures, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports in accordance with IOM and donor requirements. The intern will also support financial reviews of sub-office allocations, assist in issuing Work Breakdown Lines (WBLs), participate in internal meetings, training, and financial review sessions for learning purposes, and perform any other duties that align with the internship objectives and team needs.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or in a graduate program, or have completed a university degree within the last 12 months. A strong interest in analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis, humanitarian programming, or public sector budgeting is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of English, both oral and written, while knowledge of Dari or Pashto is considered an advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to manage data with attention to detail are required. The ideal candidate should be motivated to learn and work effectively in a cross-functional humanitarian team, showcasing a commitment to the core values of the organization.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in their final year of a bachelor’s degree program or to be enrolled in a graduate program. Additional Notes:
The intern will receive a monthly stipend to help offset costs associated with the internship. On-the-job learning, coaching, and capacity-building support will be provided throughout the internship duration. It is essential for the intern to be based in or able to travel to the Kabul office. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for such cases. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its aims and objectives, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination based on various factors. IOM does not charge any fees at any stage of its recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
