Job Overview: The position of Chauffeur is critical to the successful implementation of the United Nations technical assistance project for the electoral cycle in Cameroon from 2025 to 202
The Chauffeur will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for project personnel, consultants, and visiting delegations to various meetings, field missions, workshops, and electoral events in Yaounde and other regions. This role requires a commitment to ensuring the logistical support necessary for the coordination between UNDP and partner agencies, including UNESCO, UNFPA, UN Women, IOM, and national counterparts such as ELECAM and the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The Chauffeur will also assist in the logistical preparation of missions, training, or workshops related to elections, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently and securely. The position demands a high level of responsibility, as the Chauffeur will be expected to maintain vehicle records, ensure compliance with UN safety regulations, and support the overall operational continuity of the project during critical electoral phases.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Driving and logistical support: Safely drive UN vehicles to transport project personnel, consultants, and visiting delegations to and from meetings, field missions, workshops, and electoral events. Provide reliable and timely driving services to support coordination between UNDP and partner agencies. Ensure the transport of official documents, correspondence, and project materials while maintaining confidentiality and accountability. Assist in logistical preparations for missions, training, or workshops related to elections, including airport transfers and on-site mobility assistance for teams and participants. Maintain accurate daily vehicle records, including mileage, fuel consumption, and travel authorizations.
Vehicle maintenance and management: Conduct daily checks on vehicle conditions and report any mechanical issues promptly. Ensure vehicles are clean, in good working order, and properly equipped with safety tools. Regularly maintain vehicles according to UNDP maintenance schedules and keep maintenance records updated.
Compliance, safety, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security: Strictly adhere to UN safety and security rules, including UNDSS guidelines and travel restrictions during high-risk periods. Practice safe and defensive driving, respecting local traffic laws and safety instructions, especially in sensitive or remote areas. Support the implementation of emergency and evacuation plans during field missions.
Administrative and logistical assistance: Support the coordination and delivery of project materials to field sites, assist in the logistical setup of events, and perform routine administrative tasks such as photocopying and inventory management. Liaise with local service providers with supervisor authorization and ensure compliance with vehicle usage policies.
Other tasks: Perform any other driving or logistical tasks assigned by the project manager or administrative assistant to facilitate the smooth operation of the UN technical assistance project. Provide driving support for joint UN missions or coordination meetings as required by the multi-agency nature of the project.
Required Qualifications: A valid driver's license (minimum category B) is required. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience as a driver. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word and Excel is necessary. Experience working with a ministry or international organization is preferred. Knowledge of vehicle mechanics is an asset, as is prior experience within the UN system. Familiarity with field vehicle operations, including safety protocols and communication procedures, is essential. Candidates should also have a good understanding of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques. Administrative skills related to vehicle management, including logbook maintenance and insurance tracking, are required. Knowledge of UN security and safety procedures related to field missions is advantageous. A good knowledge of the road map of Cameroon is necessary, and proficiency in French is required, while knowledge of English is an asset.
Educational Background: A secondary school diploma is required for this position. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate the ability to perform driving-related tasks effectively.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of two years of relevant experience as a driver, preferably in a professional setting. Experience in driving official vehicles and transporting dignitaries or officials is highly desirable. Familiarity with the operational procedures of international organizations, particularly the United Nations, is an advantage. Candidates should also have experience in vehicle maintenance and management, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Cameroon. Knowledge of English is considered an asset and may enhance communication with international partners and stakeholders.
