Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant G-5 position at UNICEF involves ensuring effective and efficient supply chain service delivery and response. This role supports day-to-day logistics operations and emergency preparedness, which includes planning, monitoring, and coordinating in-country logistics. The Logistics Assistant will manage third-party logistics providers, ensure timely delivery of supplies, manage contracts, optimize infrastructure, and monitor procurement progress. The position also requires maintaining accurate data for informed decision-making, ensuring compliance with operational standards, facilitating vendor management, and keeping proper documentation for future reference and audits. The role is crucial in supporting UNICEF's mission to provide essential services to children and vulnerable families in Cameroon.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
  • Planning and coordinating logistics operations to ensure timely delivery of supplies.
  • Managing relationships with third-party logistics providers to optimize service delivery.
  • Monitoring procurement processes and ensuring compliance with operational standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation for audits and future reference.
  • Facilitating vendor management and ensuring proper communication with suppliers.
  • Analyzing logistics data to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness efforts by ensuring that logistics operations are ready to respond to crises.
  • Collaborating with other UNICEF teams to align logistics operations with overall organizational goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative experience in supply chain management or a commercial context. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Familiarity with logistics operations in a developing country context is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience in managing contracts and vendor relationships, as well as a solid understanding of procurement processes.

Educational Background:
A completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to supply chain, business administration, contract/commercial law, or another relevant technical field. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant field may replace three years of relevant work experience, while an advanced university degree (Master’s) may replace an additional two years of experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative experience in supply chain management or a commercial context. Experience in a UN system agency or organization, particularly in a developing country, is considered an asset. Familiarity with health supply chain management and complex warehousing environments is also advantageous. Candidates should have experience using Excel for reporting and data analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in French and good knowledge of English are required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within diverse teams.
