Job Overview:
The Diaspora Engagement and Agricultural Development Specialist will play a crucial role in leveraging the potential of the Cameroonian diaspora to transform the agricultural sector. This position involves designing and implementing evidence-based models that mobilize diaspora human capital and resources to develop climate-resilient and youth-inclusive agricultural practices. The specialist will assess the contributions of the diaspora to agricultural productivity and climate resilience, facilitate partnerships with various stakeholders, and support initiatives that empower youth in rural areas. The role requires a deep understanding of the intersection between migration, agriculture, and socio-economic development, as well as the ability to engage with diverse actors to foster collaboration and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and generate evidence on diaspora contributions to agricultural productivity and climate resilience, utilizing available data sources such as DTM, MGI, and GCM Voluntary Review.
  • Design and implement small-scale pilot projects that link diaspora members with youth and cooperatives in climate-smart agriculture initiatives.
  • Strengthen access to social protection and insurance schemes for migrants and rural youth in collaboration with CNPS.
  • Facilitate partnerships with the private sector, academic institutions, and government entities to enhance the impact of diaspora engagement in agriculture.
  • Finalize analysis of diaspora-agriculture linkages and develop pathways for reintegration of migrants interested in agricultural opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the University of San Francisco to establish academic partnerships, including joint research and development of co-branded publications.
  • Map agribusiness CSR priorities and structure co-investment models to support private sector partnerships.
  • Produce knowledge packages, including policy briefs and communication materials, to facilitate the scaling up of successful initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Migration Studies, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of migration issues, reintegration processes, or humanitarian principles is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in diaspora engagement, reintegration, climate resilience programming, agriculture, rural development, or livelihood projects, preferably within international organizations or NGOs.
  • Familiarity with social protection schemes and agricultural value chains in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Experience in data analysis, research consolidation, and preparation of policy briefs or knowledge products.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with academia and produce peer-reviewed research outputs.
  • Strong coordination, facilitation, and drafting skills in both English and French.
  • Previous collaboration with universities, research institutions, or private sector actors is an asset.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Migration Studies, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in relevant areas will be preferred. Knowledge of migration issues, reintegration processes, or humanitarian principles is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in diaspora engagement, reintegration, climate resilience programming, agriculture, rural development, or livelihood projects. Experience within international organizations, NGOs, or development agencies is preferred. Familiarity with social protection schemes and agricultural value chains in sub-Saharan Africa is essential. The candidate should also have experience in data analysis, research consolidation, and the preparation of policy briefs or knowledge products. Demonstrated ability to engage with academia and produce peer-reviewed research outputs is crucial, along with strong coordination and facilitation skills.

Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is required for this position, encompassing both oral and written communication. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective engagement with diverse stakeholders, including government entities, academic institutions, and private sector partners.
