Job Overview:
The Reintegration and Public Relations Assistant position is designed to support the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in its efforts to assist returning migrants, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable communities in Cameroon. This role is critical in enhancing operational communication and public relations, ensuring effective coordination with key stakeholders, and fostering relationships with the Cameroonian diaspora. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the National Outreach and Visibility Officer and will closely collaborate with the Reintegration and Communications Units. The position aims to strengthen the IOM's outreach efforts, improve beneficiary feedback mechanisms, and promote community cohesion through various initiatives. The successful candidate will play a vital role in transforming returning migrants into local development actors, thereby contributing to broader stabilization and recovery efforts in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Reintegration and Public Relations Assistant include:
  • Liaison and Public Relations: Maintain regular communication with beneficiaries, private sector partners, local authorities, and migrant associations, including managing an emergency hotline. Support liaison with IOM missions in countries of origin to ensure coherent follow-up of return cases. Identify and strengthen relationships with Cameroonian diaspora associations to promote voluntary return and reintegration initiatives. Manage beneficiary and partner feedback and complaints in coordination with relevant units.
  • Communication and Visibility Support: Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of communication materials that highlight beneficiaries and partners. Organize community events and fairs showcasing reintegration projects. Disseminate clear institutional information to enhance transparency and strengthen partner confidence.
  • Partnership Support: Collaborate with Operations and Finance Units to improve communication with private companies regarding administrative and payment procedures. Identify new partnership opportunities with the private sector and civil society organizations. Monitor ongoing partnerships and partner satisfaction.
  • Documentation and Monitoring: Document good practices and draft success stories on reintegration projects. Collect qualitative data for project reports and visibility materials. Support monitoring of indicators related to communication and partner satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Reintegration and Public Relations Assistant position include:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Management, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of migration issues, reintegration processes, or humanitarian principles is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with a service-oriented and quality-focused approach.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Communication, Public Relations, Management, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related discipline. Additional knowledge of migration issues and humanitarian principles will be considered beneficial for this role, as it aligns with the IOM's mission and objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in areas such as communication or public relations, reintegration, community development, or stabilization activities. Experience collaborating with the private sector, diaspora, or civil society organizations is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented approach, with prior experience in international humanitarian contexts being advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with diverse stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
