Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant - Researcher/ Writer for the UNV corporate publication project involves a significant role in the production of a corporate photo book that showcases testimonials and highlights the impact of UN Volunteers. The consultant will be responsible for conducting thorough research, interviewing relevant individuals, and curating content that reflects the essence of volunteerism as promoted by UNV. This role requires a blend of creativity and organizational skills to ensure that the publication meets the outreach and publication needs of UNV. The consultant will work closely with the supervisor to outline and prioritize tasks, ensuring that the project aligns with the strategic goals of UNV. The consultant will also collaborate with a layout designer to finalize the concept and production of the book, which may include digital outreach materials.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Outlining and prioritizing tasks in collaboration with the supervisor based on UNV's outreach and publication needs.
Conducting research to identify and interview relevant individuals for editorial content.
Writing and curating photography that aligns with the publication's theme.
Collaborating with a layout designer to develop the book's concept and oversee the approval process for the final product.
Coordinating the overall production of the book, ensuring timelines are met and quality standards are upheld.
Supporting the development of any complementary digital or outreach materials that may accompany the publication.
Engaging in regular communication with UNV stakeholders to provide updates on progress and gather feedback.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess a strong background in research and writing, particularly in the context of corporate publications or similar projects. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have the ability to conduct interviews and synthesize information effectively. Familiarity with the UN system and an understanding of volunteerism and development issues will be advantageous. Additionally, the candidate should be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be considered an asset. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in research methodologies, writing skills, and an understanding of the global development landscape.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in research, writing, or communications, preferably within an international organization or non-profit sector. Experience in producing publications, particularly those related to volunteerism or development, will be highly regarded. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the publication will be produced in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to UNV's operations, would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and content.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 95 working days over a period of 8 months. The consultant will work remotely, allowing for flexibility in managing their time and tasks. The role is expected to be full-time during the assignment period, and candidates should be prepared to submit their proposals directly through the specified supplier portal by the indicated deadline.
