Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position focuses on supporting climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and digital transformation in agriculture within Zambia. The role is crucial in enhancing food production efficiency and strengthening food value chains, particularly in the context of increasing food insecurity driven by climate change and economic shocks. The volunteer will work closely with national and local authorities, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, to promote sustainable agricultural practices and improve monitoring systems for food production and climate impacts. This position is integral to advancing WFP's strategic objectives and contributing to the overall mission of eradicating hunger in Zambia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake various responsibilities, including supporting climate-resilient food production initiatives, assisting in the implementation of digital agriculture projects, and promoting data-driven agricultural practices among local stakeholders. The volunteer will also contribute to the design and implementation of food value chain strategies, facilitate market linkages for smallholder farmers, and promote innovations in agricultural infrastructure and technology. Additionally, the role involves capacity development through coaching and training sessions for government officers and agribusiness actors, as well as supporting inter-agency coordination and monitoring project progress. The volunteer will prepare technical inputs and reports for WFP, UNV, and donors, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing among partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a background in agriculture, environmental science, or a related field. Proficiency in project management and experience in capacity building and stakeholder engagement are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and possess excellent communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with digital tools and technologies in agriculture is highly desirable, as well as an understanding of climate change impacts on food security.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, development studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a solid understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and climate change adaptation strategies, as well as knowledge of food security issues in the context of Zambia.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in agriculture, food security, or related fields. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations in a development context is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing projects and engaging with local communities and stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of WFP and the primary language of communication in Zambia. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset, as it can facilitate better engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

This is a volunteer position under the UNV program, and the duration of the assignment is typically one year, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.
