In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.
Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UN Women Jordan Country Office is dedicated to supporting the Government of Jordan in implementing global norms and standards related to gender equality and women's empowerment. The organization operates under a Strategic Note for the period 2023-2027, focusing on promoting women's economic empowerment, gender-responsive governance, and women's political participation. It aligns its efforts with the Jordan Triple Modernization Agenda and works to advance the Women, Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security agenda through the Jordan National Action Plan. The office also implements a resilience and empowerment model for Syrian refugee women and vulnerable Jordanian women, contributing to the Jordan Response Plan. UN Women Jordan operates within the humanitarian-peace-development nexus, ensuring coherence and interlinkages across its projects and programs, while fulfilling UN Women’s triple mandate of operational, coordination, and normative work.

Job Overview:
The Coordination and Programme Support Associate will work under the direct guidance of the Deputy Country Representative and in close coordination with the Country Representative. This role is pivotal in supporting UN Women’s leadership in inter-agency coordination to promote gender equality and women's empowerment through various UN development and humanitarian coordination structures. The associate will provide management, operational, and project implementation oversight to the entire office, assisting the Deputy Country Representative with the annual planning and reporting cycle. Key responsibilities include coordinating UN Women’s participation in various UNCT groups, supporting gender mainstreaming in joint work plans, and ensuring that gender equality and women's empowerment are integrated into the Syrian refugee response. The associate will also engage with multiple stakeholders, including humanitarian partners and development agencies, to strengthen coordination and financing for gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to the Country Representative and the Jordan Country Office on inter-agency coordination, including organizing meetings, overseeing action plans, and monitoring implementation.
  • Support strategic planning for the Jordan Country Office by contributing to concept notes, programming processes, and reporting on outcomes.
  • Assist in project and program management, ensuring quality control, monitoring implementation, and aligning budgets with project goals.
  • Provide operational oversight, including data analysis, establishing monitoring standards, and facilitating communication across the office.
  • Support advocacy and communication initiatives related to gender equality and women's empowerment.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building within the office and among partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment issues, particularly in the context of Jordan. They should have experience in inter-agency coordination, project management, and strategic planning. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are essential. Proficiency in using various software and tools for project management and reporting is also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, gender studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in project management, inter-agency coordination, or a related field. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable, particularly in contexts related to gender equality and women's empowerment.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Amman, Jordan. The volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance, annual and learning leaves, and free medical and life insurance. The volunteer is responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The living conditions in Amman are generally favorable, with a variety of amenities and services available.
