Job Overview:
The position of Consultant Chargé de la Transformation et de la Consolidation du Plan de l’Economie Forestière involves a critical role in the transformation and consolidation of the forestry economy plan in Cameroon. The consultant will be expected to engage in a comprehensive analysis of the current forestry policies and practices, identify gaps, and propose actionable strategies to enhance the sustainability and economic viability of the forestry sector. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental economics, forestry management, and policy development. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and international partners, to ensure that the plan aligns with national and global sustainability goals. The mission is expected to last for a period of 90 days, during which the consultant will be responsible for delivering a detailed report outlining the findings and recommendations for the forestry economy plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the current forestry economy in Cameroon, including existing policies, practices, and challenges.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives on the forestry sector.
  • Analyze data related to forestry resources, economic impacts, and environmental sustainability.
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for the transformation and consolidation of the forestry economy plan.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops and discussions to validate findings and gather further input from stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the proposed strategies are aligned with national development goals and international best practices in forestry management.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to stakeholders during the implementation phase of the plan.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A strong background in environmental economics, forestry management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in policy analysis and development, particularly in the context of natural resource management.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Cameroon and the challenges facing the forestry sector.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have at least a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics, Forestry Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, particularly for those with a focus on sustainable development and policy analysis.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental policy, forestry management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in Cameroon or similar contexts is highly desirable. The candidate should have a proven track record of successfully managing projects related to natural resource management and policy development.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Cameroon. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset, enhancing engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 90 days. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the position is open to both national and international candidates.
