Job Overview: The UN Volunteer - Green and Digital Transformation Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the green transformation (GX) and digital transformation (DX) initiatives at King Mswati III International Airport (KMIII). This position involves working closely with the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and the Sustainable Development Programme Specialist, as well as coordinating with the Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA) and relevant ministries. The specialist will be responsible for overseeing the technical delivery of energy efficiency and renewable energy systems, ensuring that they align with engineering standards and project requirements. Additionally, the role includes mapping cargo and cold chain processes, integrating Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and ensuring that operational staff transition smoothly to new systems. The specialist will also be involved in stakeholder coordination, capacity development, and results management, ensuring that environmental and social safeguards are mainstreamed throughout project implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer - Green and Digital Transformation Specialist include:
Providing technical oversight for the design review and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy systems at KMIII, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and operational needs.
Leading the development and quality assurance of technical specifications and Statements of Work (SoWs) for procurement processes.
Overseeing site readiness, system commissioning, and testing activities, ensuring contractors meet performance and safety standards.
Mapping cargo and cold chain processes, documenting workflows, bottlenecks, and system requirements.
Guiding the design and integration of IoT solutions and operational dashboards.
Defining data standards and overseeing user acceptance testing for digital components.
Convening a technical working group to establish standard operating procedures for green and digital cargo handling.
Delivering targeted trainings on energy operations and data-driven operations.
Managing key performance indicators related to energy cost reduction and digital adoption. 1
Ensuring environmental and social safeguards are integrated into project implementation. 1
Producing technical briefs and contributing to visibility events and knowledge exchange platforms. 1

Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the UN Volunteer - Green and Digital Transformation Specialist include:
A strong background in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
Proven experience in project management, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and digital transformation.
Familiarity with the aviation sector and logistics processes is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical designs into operational gains.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in project management, particularly in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and digital transformation. Experience working with international organizations or in the aviation sector is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Eswatini, is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time volunteer role based in Mbabane, Eswatini, with frequent travel to King Mswati III International Airport. The UN Volunteers will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of S2340.85, a one-time entry lump sum of $3500, and comprehensive health and life coverage for the volunteer and up to three eligible dependents.
