In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

> International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW)
> Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)
> United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
The main roles of UN Women are:
> To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview: The Programme Associate position at UN Women involves providing support to the EVAWG Programme Team in the development and implementation of effective programmes that align with UN Women’s rules and regulations. The role includes contributing to research, financial management, and programme implementation, as well as providing operational, administrative, and programmatic support. The Programme Associate will work closely with the EVAWG Technical Specialist, Programme Management Support Specialist, and Finance Officer to coordinate the Pacific Partnership Programme to End Violence Against Women and Girls. This position requires the organization and provision of secretariat services for the Pacific Partnership Steering Committee and Coordination Committee meetings. The Programme Associate will also collaborate with operations, programme, and project staff within UN Women Fiji MCO, Regional Office, and UN Women Headquarters to resolve complex finance-related issues and facilitate the exchange of information.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Associate will be responsible for a variety of key functions, including: providing advanced administrative and logistical support for programme formulation and management; assisting in the preparation of programme work plans, budgets, and proposals; offering technical guidance to country offices and executing agencies on routine delivery and reporting of programme activities; coordinating the collection of information for programme audits and supporting the implementation of audit recommendations; contributing to the development of standard operating procedures and guidelines; organizing meetings for the Pacific Partnership Programme Steering Committee and Programme Coordination Committee; maintaining updated records in the Programme Management System (PGAMS); overseeing financial management tasks such as budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, and preparing financial reports; managing logistical arrangements for meetings and events; preparing public information materials; and supporting resource mobilization efforts by managing cost-sharing agreements and compiling information from donors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of programme management and the ability to create, edit, synthesize, and present information in clear formats. They should have experience administering and executing administrative processes and transactions, as well as providing input to business process re-engineering and the implementation of new data management systems. Excellent financial and budgeting skills are essential, along with proficiency in IT and the ability to manage data, documents, correspondence, and workflow effectively. Candidates should demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity, as well as possess core competencies such as awareness of gender issues, accountability, creative problem-solving, effective communication, inclusive collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and leading by example.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or programme management/support. Experience in a computer environment using multiple office software packages is required, along with a proven track record of supporting a team. Familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable but not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of UN Women.
