UNOPS Pakistan is part of the Sri Lanka Multi Country Office in the Asia Region and continues to deliver projects across the country, focusing on sustainable infrastructure, procurement, and project management.

Job Overview:
The Associate Architect plays a crucial role in supporting both new and ongoing infrastructure initiatives within UNOPS. This position involves providing project management support to ensure that all UNOPS procedures are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle. The Associate Architect is responsible for assisting in project management activities, updating project dashboards, and preparing concept designs that align with stakeholder expectations. This role also includes managing lessons learned from projects to enhance future initiatives. Reporting to the PMO Specialist, the Associate Architect is expected to apply technical expertise and best practices in project implementation, ensuring that all design and construction activities meet UNOPS standards and contribute to the overall mission of building a better future through effective project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Architect include:
  • Supporting design management by assisting the project team in preparing the Scope of Services for design services contracts, evaluating bids for design services, and writing Design Briefs for infrastructure designs.
  • Ensuring that approved concepts and detailed designs meet UNOPS Design Review standards and supporting the preparation of tender documents.
  • Monitoring construction projects to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards, implementing quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Assisting in the design management process for office infrastructure projects, coordinating with Design Consultants, and preparing quality management templates.
  • Supporting the PMO Specialist in tracking project reports and monitoring design services' progress against schedules.
  • Contributing to project evaluation processes and sharing best practices and lessons learned within the engineering community.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong foundation in architecture and project management, with a focus on sustainable practices. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in teams, and a commitment to continuous learning. Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. Familiarity with UNOPS policies and procedures is advantageous, as is experience in managing infrastructure projects.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Associate Architect position should have a degree in architecture or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or sustainable design practices are preferred. A solid understanding of architectural design principles and project management methodologies is essential for success in this role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in architecture and project management, particularly in the context of infrastructure projects. Experience working with international organizations or in a UN context is highly desirable. Familiarity with design management processes and quality assurance practices is also important.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNOPS. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Pakistan is an advantage, as it facilitates communication with local stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UNV assignment, meaning that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 131,371 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. The position includes life health and permanent disability insurance, covering health insurance for up to three dependents, as well as final repatriation and resettlement allowances for satisfactory service.
