Job Overview:
The Economic Recovery (EC Rec) Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating DRC Nigeria’s economic recovery initiatives, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest regions of Nigeria. This position is responsible for providing strategic and technical oversight across various core sectors, including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, livelihoods, agriculture, financial inclusion, and market systems. The coordinator will ensure high-quality design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and delivery, lead the technical direction of DRC’s Economic Recovery portfolio, and support the development of strategies, tools, and new funding opportunities. The role also involves close collaboration with DRC’s coordination and implementation teams, as well as with implementing and strategic partners, to ensure that the economic recovery programs are effectively addressing the needs of affected populations and are aligned with DRC’s overall mission and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Technical Coordination and Advisory: Provide technical advisory throughout the project cycle to ensure high-quality Economic Recovery programming across all DRC operational areas. Lead the development, update, and roll-out of DRC’s EcRec technical strategy, focusing on affected population needs, innovation, environmental sustainability, and durable solutions. Provide technical inputs to proposal development, donor reports, concept notes, assessments, and evaluations, ensuring alignment with sector strategies. Ensure technical support during the implementation of the graduation approach, including the development of SoPs, tools, and implementation guidance, as well as curricula and training materials tailored to various stakeholders. Support the start-up of new EcRec initiatives and provide capacity building, ongoing coaching, and quality monitoring for field teams and partners. Prepare knowledge products to strengthen sector-wide technical coherence and conduct analysis of EcRec trends to inform strategy and program adaptation.
  • Representation, Fundraising and Advocacy: Lead DRC’s EcRec representation at national and area-level coordination platforms, engaging with donors, government authorities, INGOs, UN agencies, and private sector stakeholders. Contribute to fundraising efforts by identifying funding opportunities and supporting proposal development. Produce advocacy materials highlighting EcRec results and needs to support strategic engagement and donor visibility.
  • Coordination, Representation & Advocacy: Maintain strong collaboration with technical leads across DRC Nigeria and participate actively in program planning meetings. Coordinate closely with MEAL, Protection, and other sector technical teams to ensure an integrated approach. Provide onboarding and training for new EcRec staff and short-term technical support deployments. The EcRec Coordinator may also be asked to carry out other duties as requested by the Head of Programme, aligned with the scope and purpose of the position.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian or development programming, particularly in areas such as food security, livelihoods, agriculture, financial inclusion, cash and voucher assistance, or market systems. Candidates should have strong experience in designing and implementing livelihood and financial inclusion interventions, as well as technical experience in graduation programming and resilience-building. The ability to develop SoPs, tools, and training curricula is essential, along with experience in coordinating training for diverse audiences. Candidates should also have experience in proposal development, donor engagement, and strategic planning, as well as knowledge of market assessment methodologies and the ability to support market-based programming. Strong communication, facilitation, and writing skills are required, with full professional proficiency in English.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in political science, international development, economic studies, or other relevant fields. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of economic recovery and humanitarian assistance in conflict-affected areas.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian or development programming, with a focus on at least four of the specified areas such as food security, livelihoods, and market systems. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record in the design and implementation of economic recovery initiatives and possess technical expertise in graduation programming and social protection.

Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. While English is the primary language of communication, knowledge of local languages spoken in the regions of operation may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability. The role is based in Abuja, Nigeria, and is open to both national and international candidates. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with the DRC National salary structure.
