Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Agente de Atendimento Local will play a crucial role in implementing the Support Plan for the Legal Amazon states and the Forest+ Amazonia Pilot Project. This position involves working closely with the Project Coordinator and the Local Floresta+ coordinator to execute the project activities effectively. The volunteer will be responsible for preparing and executing the Working Plan, supporting state agencies in verifying data for Rural Environmental Registries (CAR), and providing assistance to rural property owners. The role requires engaging with local communities, conducting training events, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The volunteer will also contribute to increasing the number of eligible candidates for the Forest+ project, thereby supporting sustainable development in the Amazon region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Collaborating with the Project Management Unit and the Local Coordinator to prepare and execute the Working Plan.
Assisting the State Secretariat in verifying data from technical service providers for CAR analysis and validation.
Providing face-to-face and remote assistance to rural property owners for accessing the Rural Environmental Registry System (SICAR).
Helping small family farmers declare their properties in CAR and correct their registrations.
Supporting technical training events at State Secretariats and institutions for rural property owners.
Assisting in the rectification process of CAR notifications and environmental regularization.
Informing stakeholders about compliance procedures with CAR analysis notifications.
Engaging with property owners to encourage participation in the Floresta+ Amazonia Pilot Project.
Assisting potential beneficiaries in joining the project. 1
Performing other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a commitment to sustainable development and community engagement. The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and civil society organizations, is essential. The volunteer should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. A strong understanding of environmental policies and practices, particularly related to the Amazon region, will be beneficial. Additionally, the candidate should be able to work independently and manage their time effectively to meet project deadlines.
Educational Background: A background in environmental science, social sciences, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant academic qualifications or experience in community development, environmental management, or agricultural practices will be considered favorably. Knowledge of Brazilian environmental laws and regulations, particularly those related to the Amazon biome, is an asset.
Experience: The position requires prior experience in community engagement, project implementation, or environmental management. Experience working with rural communities, particularly in the context of environmental conservation or sustainable agriculture, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges faced by small family farmers in Brazil and the ability to navigate local governance structures will enhance the candidate's effectiveness in this role.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Brazil. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region may be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Boa Vista, Roraima, with responsibilities extending throughout the state. The volunteer will be expected to travel frequently to project areas. The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security level in Brazil is moderate, and volunteers must adhere to safety protocols established by the United Nations Department for Safety and Security. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for organizing their own housing and essentials.
