Job Overview:
The WASH Officer position is crucial for providing technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process. Reporting to the WASH Specialist, the officer is responsible for preparing, managing, and implementing various technical and administrative tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH output results within the country programme. The role requires a proactive approach to program development and planning, ensuring effective management and delivery of results, and providing technical and operational support for program implementation. The officer will also play a key role in humanitarian WASH preparedness and response, networking, partnership building, and fostering innovation and knowledge management within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and plan WASH programs that align with UNICEF's strategic objectives.
  • Manage and monitor the implementation of WASH programs, ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Provide technical and operational support for the effective implementation of WASH initiatives.
  • Prepare for and respond to humanitarian WASH needs during emergencies.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Foster innovation and manage knowledge to improve WASH practices and capacity building within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor's) in public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, or a relevant technical field. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in WASH-related programs, particularly in emergency contexts. Strong technical skills in managing WASH construction projects, monitoring, and reporting are essential. Experience in managing projects and budgets is also required, along with a demonstrated capacity for humanitarian WASH response and recovery.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, or another technical discipline is mandatory. Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement the main degree are considered a strong asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in WASH-related programs, particularly in emergency response settings. Candidates should have experience managing projects and budgets, as well as a strong technical capacity for overseeing WASH construction initiatives. Familiarity with monitoring and reporting processes is also crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within diverse teams and communities.
