Job Overview:

The project addresses the multifaceted causes of hunger and malnutrition, including poverty, crises, conflicts, overpopulation, natural disasters, and lack of access to essential services such as healthcare, nutritious food, clean drinking water, and sanitation facilities. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting various measures across sectors like agriculture, health, education, social security, and water and hygiene (WASH). The overarching goals include enhancing the year-round availability of diverse and healthy food, changing dietary behaviors, especially among women and children, and supporting policies that increase food security and resilience while gathering evidence on how nutrition can be improved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for providing both substantive and organizational support to the coordination unit in daily operations. This includes preparing and following up on team meetings and workshops, assisting those responsible for monitoring and communication, and drafting and revising statements, presentations, and other written materials. The intern will conduct analyses and research related to food security and resilience, support reporting to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), assist in impact measurement, and contribute to knowledge management and collaboration with project staff outside of Germany.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have at least a completed undergraduate degree in nutrition, political science, agricultural science, social sciences, or a related field. Initial experience in development cooperation and international exposure is required, with prior experience in food security and resilience being advantageous. Excellent command of both English and German, both written and spoken, is mandatory, and knowledge of French is a plus. The ideal candidate should enjoy writing and revising texts, possess a quick grasp of concepts, demonstrate a structured working style, and have strong analytical thinking skills. Familiarity with statistics and data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R, Python) is beneficial. A high degree of creativity, reliability, teamwork, flexibility, and commitment is expected.

Educational Background:
The position requires a minimum of a completed undergraduate degree in fields such as nutrition, political science, agricultural science, social sciences, or a closely related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the foundational knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to the project.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have initial experience in development cooperation, which may include internships, volunteer work, or relevant academic projects. Experience abroad is also preferred, as it provides valuable insights into international contexts and challenges related to food security and resilience. Previous exposure to the specific areas of food security and resilience will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and German is mandatory for this position, as the intern will be required to communicate effectively in both languages. Additionally, knowledge of French is considered advantageous, as it may facilitate communication in certain contexts and with specific stakeholders.
