Job Posting Organization:
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty established to promote the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. The CMS Secretariat, located in Bonn, Germany, supports various intergovernmental instruments aimed at migratory species conservation. It also provides administrative functions for several agreements under its umbrella, including the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) plays a crucial role in coordinating environmental policy and addressing global and regional environmental issues, ensuring that emerging concerns are brought to the attention of governments and the international community. The CMS Office in Abu Dhabi focuses on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MOU).

Job Overview:
The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international environmental cooperation, communication, and partnership development. The selected intern will support the CMS Avian Team either in Bonn or Abu Dhabi, engaging in a variety of bird-related activities. The internship is unpaid, and daily responsibilities will vary based on the intern's background, assigned office, and internship period. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Avian Unit and collaborate with team members to support the implementation of COP15 Resolutions and related decisions, focusing on CMS instruments and activities that align with a Flyway approach to migratory species conservation. The intern will also assist in quantifying and prioritizing actions needed to enhance the team's work in areas such as Flyways, seabirds, species action plans, renewable energy, and addressing illegal and unsustainable practices affecting migratory birds.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the implementation of COP15 Resolutions, assisting the Avian Team in prioritizing actions for Flyways, seabirds, and species action plans, and providing support to various CMS Working Groups and Task Forces. Specific tasks may involve attending workshops and seminars, analyzing surveys related to raptor conservation, coordinating news stories for publication, and preparing factsheets on critically endangered migratory raptor species. The intern will also assist in organizing logistics for meetings, maintaining contact databases, and performing other duties to support the Raptors MOU Coordinating Unit.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, or have graduated with a university degree. Preference will be given to candidates studying biology, ecology, zoology, environmental science, geography, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, international relations, or data analytics. Applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in wildlife conservation and the work of the United Nations, possess strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds, and be proficient in standard computer software.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic program, such as a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in fields related to environmental science, biology, or international relations. Proof of enrollment or graduation will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship role. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of wildlife conservation and international environmental policy.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as Arabic, French, Mandarin, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
