Job Overview:
The Economic Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in analyzing economic and sector data related to sustainable finance and responsible investment. This position involves developing socio-economic databases and qualitative information necessary for various assignments that pertain to sustainable development. The officer will interpret and adapt econometric models to analyze trends and the impact of different policies. The role also includes drafting technical papers and analytical studies on sustainable finance, attending international meetings to gather information, and assisting in organizing expert group meetings and seminars. The officer will prepare reports and inputs for intergovernmental bodies, participate in missions, and organize training seminars for national experts and regulators. This position requires a proactive approach to research, analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders in the field of sustainable finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Conducting economic and sector analysis by developing databases and qualitative information for assignments related to responsible investment.
  • Interpreting and adapting econometric models to analyze trends and the effects of policies.
  • Drafting inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on sustainable finance.
  • Identifying and analyzing policy proposals related to sustainable development.
  • Attending international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and engage with colleagues.
  • Assisting in organizing expert group meetings and seminars on sustainable finance.
  • Preparing speeches and presentations for senior staff.
  • Contributing to reports for intergovernmental bodies on responsible investment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, political economy, business administration, finance, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires a strong understanding of economic theories and concepts, particularly in the context of sustainable development and finance. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research and analyze data from various sources effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as economics, political economy, business administration, or finance. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of sustainable finance and investment practices.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, and the application of economic principles in development programs is required. Experience working with stock exchange officials and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security market regulators in sustainable finance is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience managing UN partnership programs and conceptualizing agendas for public meetings and seminars, both online and in-person.

Languages:
English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Desirable languages include French, Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish, Arabic, and Russian, with varying levels of proficiency required. Proficiency in any of these languages will be considered an asset, particularly for engaging with diverse stakeholders in the field of sustainable finance.
